owls by 2B

What does "3-d" mean?
More than needing special glasses......
three dimensional objects have height, width and depth. These sculptors have created some expressive owls in modeling clay.

Art afternoon with 1Z

Our mosaic elephant was a positive experience in tearing paper, applying glue and adding paper to the surface. It was a successful collaborative where students changed responsibilities by asking if someone would change with them.

artist posters and organization by color

Welcome Back to the Artists' Workshop for another year of  making fabulous art.
To help with organizing art works from nearly 200 students, each table is designated by color expressed by the artist poster hanging over the table.
Students who sit at this table keep art  in portfolios that are kept in one of 10 large red portfolios. The artist is Vincent Van Gogh.

This still life by Cezanne denotes the "orange " table.

Matisse signals the green table.

Mary Cassatt's portrait of her niece  details  the yellow table.

Escher puzzles us at the black table and  Georgia O'Keeffee's simple arrangement decorates the blue table.

Each student sits in an assigned seat. This facilitates finding one's work in the portfolio for that table.
I am sure that the students who have had art this week, can tell you which color table he/she sits at.
We're off to a great start.  Feel free to call and schedule a visit.

may 6tiles and technique

Today was a fun, busy day. One class at a time came to the art room to work with Mr. Birch. Each student used a yellow glaze to highlight selected areas of the tile. We used a dry brush and dabbing technique.
We thank the parents who helped, Mr. Birch for all his work, and the staff of EKES for their cooperation in this project. The pieces will be shown on June 10th with the dedication of our solar panels, and installed in the school that afternoon.

1Z makes art papers

Today we painted art papers to use next week in our art. The colors were inspired by the art by Rachel Isadora in "The Ugly Duckling" .

Writing by Foley

My Hat
When I dive into my hat, I see...a sketch of me. I am wearing a black hat a park ranger would wear. I am  standing in a valley with overlapping hills, and the sun between. The sun is setting. I am wearing a black leather jacket, nice shoes, and a huge smile.
I thought hats were fun because there's all sorts of hats. At first, I wanted to do one of those hats with a propeller on top of it, then a baseball cap, then a visor. But then I remembered I like these hats. So I settled on it.

hats

These are some of the hats done by 3S. We talked about head and eye shape as well as using an horizon line.

polymer clay 5

Working with polymer is a little different than the clay we used with Mr. Birch. This gets "fired" in a little oven that looks like a toaster!
